Serena Williams and Lewis Hamilton plan to invest millions in the acquisition of the English top football club Chelsea FC. Sky Sports reports that.

Both athletes want to invest 12 million euros each. Chelsea are about to be taken over by former Liverpool chairman Martin Broughton, who would like to succeed Roman Abramovich as the owner of Chelsea. Russian billionaire Abramovich was forced to sell his club because of the war in Ukraine.

Williams and Hamilton have been in talks with Broughton for weeks about the investment. It is not clear why the two sporting legends want to invest in the London football club. Insiders have reported to Sky Sports that Hamilton would make an effort to promote diversity, fairness and inclusion at Chelsea. However, Hamilton’s interest is striking, as he is known to be a fanatic supporter of arch-rival Arsenal.

Broughton still has competition to take over the London club. Billionaires Steve Pagliuca and Larry Tanenbaum also want to become the new owners of The Blues, while Todd Boehly, co-owner of the LA Dodgers, is also interested.

Should Broughton be able to take over the club with the help of Williams and Hamilton, it would not be the first time famous athletes have invested in a Premier League club. Basketball legend LeBron James is a shareholder at Liverpool.
