Malaysian authorities are investigating a Russian pair of “daredevils” who climbed 118 Merdeka Tower, the world’s second-tallest building

Investigating the case of Russian bloggers who climbed Merdeka Tower 118, Malaysian authorities found out that the Russians did not officially enter the country, so another charge of trespassing on private property may be added to the charge, the Malaysian publication Ze Star reported.

Earlier, the Russians published video footage of them posing atop the second tallest building in the world, the unfinished 118 Merdeka Tower in Kuala Lumpur. However, authorities have no record of the Russian couple entering or leaving Malaysia, Malaysian Interior Minister Saifuddin Nasution Ismail said.

Before the new year, Malaysian police said they were investigating Russians Ivan Birkus and Angelina Nicolaou after the couple posted videos on social media taken atop the 118 Merdeka Tower, an active construction site that is 95 percent complete.

Russian bloggers Ivan Birkus (Kuznetsov) and Angelina Nikolau are known for their dangerous stunts, the pair have conquered skyscrapers around the world.

Merdeka Tower 118 is not due to be completed until mid-2023. It is the tallest building in Southeast Asia and the second tallest building in the world after the Burj Khalifa in Dubai. The developer of the tucherez, PNB Merdeka Ventures, said it will give the police full cooperation and support in the investigation.

“Since this is private property, any trespassers will be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law.”

The couple is believed to have climbed the stairs of the tower to get to the top, where they took photos and video with a drone. However, the authenticity of the video was later questioned because no record was found of the couple ever entering or leaving the country, a spokesman for the Malaysian Immigration Department said.

“A check revealed that both suspects are not currently in the country, and the investigation revealed that there is no record of them ever entering or leaving the country in the Immigration Department’s system at all.”

“Based on our initial investigation, PNB management has stated that their strict control throughout the tower will make it difficult for anyone to enter and climb the high-rise structure in the future,” said Kuala Lumpur Deputy Police Chief Yahaya Othman.

“The top of Medeka 118 (679 meters / 2,227 feet). It is the second-tallest building in the world! I can’t describe my emotions. The most beautiful building I’ve ever been to,” Ivan Birkus, meanwhile, wrote on Instagram*.
