Man in Central Thailand says he is not sad that his son died after a seizure after he brutally beat his grandmother

A Thai man says he has no regrets about the death of his “crazy” son, who allegedly tried to rape his aunt and grandmother in Samut Prakan the day before last. The grandson stabbed his elderly grandmother in the neck and genitals. Neighbours ran in and tied him to a pole. He then had seizures, fell unconscious and died, according to witnesses.

In the early morning hours, officers from Phra Pradaeng Police Station were notified of the death at the wooden house in Song Khanong district.

Police found the body of 33-year-old Nattawut (surname secret) lying in the centre of the house. According to police, Nattawut had bruises and wounds to the eye sockets, cheekbones, left earlobe, wrists and both legs. His legs looked like they were tied up, police said. Police estimated he died about an hour before their arrival.

Police said there was blood on the floors, sofas and mattresses. Police found evidence of a fight at the scene.

Nattawut’s 59-year-old aunt, Khun Wanwen (surname withheld) told police that Nattawut had a “manic episode” and assaulted both her and his grandmother. Wanwen said Nattawut tried to rape her, but she managed to escape.

Nattawut then dragged his 73-year-old grandmother Pratum (name withheld) from her mosquito net, bit her breasts and tried to rape her. She fought him until Nattawut stabbed her in the neck and genitals, causing heavy bleeding and serious injury.

Neighbours heard the commotion and rushed into the house to help, where they found Pratum covered in blood. The villagers tied Nattawut to a pole.

Nattawut’s 50-year-old relative Wichian (name not given) who lives nearby arrived at the scene when Nattawut was tied up but still alive. Wichian said Nattawut spoke at first, but then he had seizures and lost consciousness and then died.

The deceased’s father, 54-year-old Manop (surname withheld), said he received a call that his son was “going wild” and held a knife to his grandmother’s neck. Manop rushed to the house where he found Nattawut straddling his badly injured grandmother and holding a knife.

Manop revealed that his son had a 10-year history of mental illness and was a soldier. Manop said illegal drug use was likely the cause of his son’s attacks and eventual death. He said his son hadn’t taken his prescribed medications, which likely triggered his manic episode.

Nattawut’s father said he has “no regrets” over the death of his “crazy” son, “after I saw blood pouring from my mother [Pratum]’s neck.” The deceased will undergo an autopsy at the Institute of Forensic Medicine.
