Robert Maraj, Nicki Minaj‘s father, died last February after being hit by Charles Polevich. Polevich pleaded guilty to a number of crimes earlier this week, according to TMZ, and will face a year in prison for the fatal accident.
Polevich faced court in March last year. He was accused of driving away without calling 911. In addition, he allegedly tampered with the evidence. Polevich was eventually declared innocent and released from prison on bail. Carol Maraj, Nicki Minaj’s mother, did not accept this ruling and decided to file a lawsuit in the New York State Supreme Court.
Polevich was back in court last Friday. The 71-year-old admitted that he drove off last year without calling 911 and tampered with the evidence. Polevich could face up to seven years behind bars, but Judge Howard Sturim promised to sentence Pollevich to no more than a year in prison, along with community service and the revocation of his driver’s license.
Maraj passed away at the age of 64. Nicki Minaj described her father’s death as the “most devastating loss” of her life.
