Medical researcher concludes: Alex Baldwin shooting incident was an accident
The shooting incident in which Alec Baldwin shot camerawoman Halyna Hutchins on the set of Rust was an accident. That’s according to an autopsy and several police reports made public today, CBC News reports .
It is still unclear how heavily the medical examiner’s conclusion will be taken into account in a future lawsuit. Earlier it became clear that Baldwin pulled the trigger himself. This was confirmed by CCTV footage of the incident. The FBI reached the same conclusion last Sunday. Prosecutors are still debating whether Baldwin should be charged. They’re still waiting for information from Baldwin’s phone before making a decision.
Baldwin accidentally shot Hutchins dead on the set of the movie Rust last year. Director Joel Souza was also injured in the incident but was allowed to return home after a short hospital stay. An initial police investigation revealed that Baldwin was given the weapon by the assistant director who said it was safe to use. The firearm turned out to contain a real bullet in addition to blanks. The case, which must determine who is responsible for the fatal incident, is still ongoing.
