Millions in new lockdown as China faces worst Covid outbreak in two years

Must read

Several cities in China are going into lockdown because of the rising infection rates. Changchun and Shenzhen, two metropolitan cities, among others, are taking strict measures. The authorities say that they want to control a new corona wave.

The measures are not good: in Changchun, only one person per household is allowed outside every two days to get food and other provisions. Everyone has to work from home, except residents fighting the pandemic. Shenzhen is requested not to leave the city. Public transport has therefore been shut down. Residents in both cities are also tested for the coronavirus three times.

China reported 3,393 infections on Sunday. According to the authorities, this is the largest number of cases in more than two years. Recently, the country reported at most hundreds of infections per day. The new infections are mainly found in the northeast of the country. In recent months, the authorities have strived for a corona-free country. Some infections are now accepted, provided that city authorities prevent the coronavirus from spreading further.
