Minister admits being too hasty in announcing that “dear Lisa” was coming to Thailand

Tourism and Sports Minister Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn admitted this weekend it was a mistake to announce the booking of K-pop sensation Lalisa “Lisa” Manoban from Blackpink for Phuket’s New Year celebrations before a contract was signed.

“It was a communication error by the Ministry and the Tourism Authority of Thailand to confirm the booking without first seeing the contract details, as I had said that the contract would not be signed until October 30,” the minister said.

“For the same reason, I can’t confirm any details about Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli.”

Minister Ratchakitprakarn denied a number of rumours, including claims that Blackpink’s management had declined Thailand’s invitation because it wanted all members of the group to attend the countdown event.

Deputy Prime Minister Anutin Charnvirakul said the issue has nothing to do with a lack of optimism about the country’s reopening.

Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha suggested inviting other international singers to perform in Phuket, in addition to cultural demonstrations from the country’s five regions.
