The Thai army command has issued a letter warning the Myanmar army not to fire mortars on Thai territory.

The commander of the Third Army, Lieutenant General Apichet Suesat, has urged Myanmar forces not to expand their operations into Thai territory.

Myanmar’s military fired three mortars at Ban Tha Ta Fang village in Mae Hong Son province on Thursday afternoon. “We warned them by firing a smoke bomb across the border and then they stopped firing,” said Lieutenant General Apichet.

There were no casualties when the mortars hit uninhabited areas near the river bank. Apparently, the projectiles were intended against the soldiers of the Karen National Union who fled across the border to Thailand.
