Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) designers and the city council want to develop Naklua Fish Market into one of the best seafood markets in Southeast Asia and should become a top tourist attraction in the future.

EEC Secretary Kanit Sangsupan and Mayor Sonthaya Khunpluem have now released details. The design of the market is one of the key projects in the “Neo Pattaya” master plan.

The government and the private sector must jointly make the necessary investments. “One of our goals is to maintain the market’s identity as a traditional-style local fishing community and to bring visitors closer to Thai culture and fishing culture and to showcase the traditional Thai way of life,” said Kanit. “We expect to attract more investors and start the renovation project by the end of this year.”

Mayor Sonthaya added that protecting the mangrove forest, canals in Naklua and fishing areas is another major concern. The market is divided into three zones, the Seaside Zone, Old Town Market Zone and The Square Zone.
