The night entertainment operators in Thailand have welcomed the news that the administrative center for Covid19 containment, CCSA, will consider resuming business operations tomorrow.
A source at the government building said access to entertainment venues would be on the table during the CCSA meeting tomorrow.
Wirawit Kruasombat, chairman of the Patong Entertainment Business Owners Club in Phuket, responded to the news of the change by thanking the government.
“I am grateful that the government understands the difficult situation Thailand’s entertainment industry has faced,” said Wirawit, adding that they also want to see measures to help businesses.
Wirawit said nightspots play an important role in Thailand’s tourism industry, so if the government wants to relax Covid measures to welcome tourists, shops such as pubs, bars, and karaoke venues should be able to resume operations.
Khao San Business Association chairman Sanga Ruangwattanakul said operators on Khao San Road have urged the government to extend opening hours and allow restaurants to serve alcohol until 11 pm or midnight or 1 am. , depending on the pre-Covid certificate.
“With regard to the current Covid19 situation, it is time for us to return to our normal lives and let people decide for themselves. There is no need for restrictions on the sale of alcohol until 11 p.m. because people can still have fun and relax,” he said.
The Khao San Road typically welcomes 1,000-2,000 revelers during weekdays and 5,000-6,000 people on Friday and Saturday nights. He said those numbers will double if opening hours are extended to midnight or 1 am.
Vorapoj Nimvijit, of the network of professional entertainment companies, urged the government to allow those who work in nighttime entertainment companies, such as singers and performers, to resume work when Covid19 is declared endemic, effective from 1 July.
Since most people have been vaccinated, the government should allow entertainment events such as concerts to continue at full capacity, Vorapoj said.
