Nintendo dropped a big surprise for The Legend of Zelda fans today! After more than three years of waiting, the publisher has finally announced when players can get started on the sequel to Zelda: Breath of the Wild.

The new part in the Zelda series is set to appear on May 12, 2023, and is titled The Legend of Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom. The game is set after the events of Breath of the Wild and it is said that the game world of Tears of the Kingdom will also include areas from Breath of the Wild.

Zelda: Tears of the Kingdom was revealed in the summer of 2019 through a teaser and since then it has been quiet around the development of the game for quite some time. Last year Nintendo released a new trailer for Tears of the Kingdom and today the publisher treated fans again to a short trailer after a long time.

What you may have noticed is that the game is very similar to its predecessor from 2017. Nintendo released Breath of the Wild five years ago to coincide with the release of the Nintendo Switch, largely breaking away from the gameplay of earlier Zelda games. It is still unknown what new gameplay elements Tears of the Kingdom will bring.
