Gunshots went off on Monday as people gathered at a funeral in Ratchaburi province, that left one dead and four people injured.
Police from Photharam station were told of the shooting at around 8pm on Monday at Wat Thamakham in Sam Reun subdistrict.
When police arrived at te scene, they found five people injured and also found bullet casings of 22 and 11mm handguns in the sermon hall for the funeral.
The wounded were rushed to hospital however one of the injured, Waraporn Niamraksa unfortunately died due to injures. And another victim the Don subdistrict chief is still in critical condition
The people who were gathered at the funeral had told officials that they had heard multiple gunshots while the host had been lighting the candles and joss sticks. This forced everyone to dive for cover in fear of getting shot.
Witnesses to the incident had reported to police that the gunshots had come from behind the Buddha image in the sermon hall.
Police speculated that the shooting could have been motivated by local political rivalry.
They are gathering evidence and interviewing witnesses to track down the suspect.
