Paragliders drop food over flooded regions in Thailand

Large parts of Thailand have been ravaged by severe flooding since this week. An estimated 200,000 families will be affected by the flooding. Volunteers found a remarkable way to feed the stranded Thais: with paramotors, they dropped food packages from the air above the cut-off areas.

The footage shows a member of the Burapa Water Rescue Team riding a powered parachute and delivering a package of ready-to-eat food to locals in Sukothai province on September 27. Enthusiastic residents retrieved supplies, which were dropped in the middle of the flood.

One happy Thai man, Samart Suksai, said: “Thank you to the rescue team who brought dry, ready-to-use supplies. Skydiving during a flood is dangerous, but the team was ready to help those in need. help out.”

At least 10 provinces in Thailand have been inundated by Tropical Storm Dianmu, according to Thailand’s Disaster Prevention and Mitigation Department. The Thai Meteorological Department said rainfall is expected to decrease within the week.

Thailand and other countries in Southeast Asia such as Malaysia, Indonesia and the Philippines are in the midst of their tropical monsoon rainy season, which lasts until October or November. Temperatures soaring to 35 degrees Celsius are often followed by powerful tropical storms with thunder, lightning, rain and flash flooding.
