Pattaya police raid birthday party for alleged violation of Covid19 rules and arrest 28 people, including 25 foreigners and 3 Thais

A team of over 50 police officers raided a private party in a villa last night and arrested 28 people, including 17 foreigners.

The raid took place last night at two luxury pool villas in Soi Bun Samphan 11/1 in Nong Prue at 11:50 PM. The raid was led by the Khun Wuttisak Singhadecho, Chief of Nongprue County Colonel Methawit Praditphol, Commissioner of Chonburi Provincial Police.

The raid came after concerned neighbours complained to the police about the party, stating they feared the potential spread of the Covid19 virus and the noise the partygoers were making.

Those arrested included 13 Filipino citizens, 6 Russian citizens, 2 French citizens, 3 Thai citizens, one British, one Canadian, one Albanian, and one Cambodian citizen.

A large number of people, mainly foreigners, were present in both villas, reportedly not wearing masks or wearing social aloofness, partying and violating the emergency decree to control the coronavirus Covid-19.

According to the police, all 28 have been arrested. Many of the foreigners were reportedly ‘shocked’ that they were breaking the law and reportedly tried to argue with the police that they were not breaking the law because it was a private event.

But Thai law is clearly and certainly the emergency decree, where gatherings, such as parties, especially with alcohol, are in violation of the law. Violators face very severe penalties, sometimes up to two years in prison and sky-high fines. However, no illegal drugs or objects were found at the parties.

According to Chief Wuttisak, all will be charged with violations of emergency regulations and violations of the communicable disease law, which could lead to the above strict penalties.
