Pattaya water company clarifies situation over sinkholes on East Pattaya rail service parallel road

The PWA told local officials this week that potholes, known as sinkholes, are caused by erosion from recent storms. Contractors who performed work on the road surface. are responsible for any accidental injuries, the PWA added.

The ‘sinkholes’ on the service road in the vicinity of the railway through Pattaya caused a traffic accident early this week that injured two people and there were significant warnings and complaints about the road on Thai social media.

Chaitat Eidsand, manager of Pattaya’s water supply authority, told “Snelle Jelle”, our furious reporter, that the renovation is designed to expand the water drainage system along the road from Pattaya to Laem Chang to Si Racha. The project is now 70 percent complete with a total budget of 257 million baht.”

“Those potholes were caused by heavy rainfall in recent days, causing erosion of the road surface,” Chaitat said.

“We have told the contractor who is responsible for the road project. They will also be held responsible for those two injuries from the recent traffic accident reported in the media.” added. “However, the water system renovation project cannot be completed in time, as many processes still need to be completed and Covid19 has caused delays.” Chaitat warned.

“We will be asking the contractors to put up more fencing and warning signs on the road.
