Police and residents of Phi Phi Island in Krabi Province have expanded their search for an Austrian hotel manager who has been missing for five days.

Herr Florian Hallermann, 56, director of the Zeavola Resort, was last spotted by a resort security camera last Saturday afternoon. He walked along the beach with a backpack.

Phi Phi police launched a search last Monday but found no trace of Herr Florian.

Yesterday, police and residents split into three teams to search forests, hills and caves around Laem Tong Beach, where the luxurious Zeavola Resort is located, for the director.

Local media reported that one of the search teams found the body of a Thai man in mangrove forest, although it is not yet known whether the death is related to Herr Hallerman’s disappearance. Koh Phi Phi Hospital is reportedly performing an autopsy on the body.

Meanwhile, the police have deployed ships in coastal waters to search for the missing man in coastal waters. They have also asked local fishermen to help with the search.

According to the locals, Herr Hallermann was a very nice person who has lived on the island for almost 20 years. He is known for regularly helping out with charity work in the nearby village, according to the locals.
