Police stumbled across 220 kilograms of crystal meth hidden in a pickup truck that overturned in Tha Chana district Thursday night.

A white Isuzu truck registered in Songkhla Province overturned in an accident on the south side of Highway 41 in Tambon Khan Thulee.

It had loaded a full load of cabbage, but no one stayed around to claim ownership.

Eyewitnesses told police the truck driver and an accomplice immediately fled the scene in a six-wheel truck after emerging from the rubble.

When police arrived at the scene, police found nine bags under cabbage bags containing 220 packs of crystal meth, also known as Ya Ice, weighing a total of 220  kg.

Each pack had one“ Guanyinwang” logo and a description identifying the content as“ refined Chinese tea”.

Police estimated the market value at 220 million baht and believe it was transported from a neighbouring country in the north to the far south to be smuggled to a third country.
