Police arrest arms dealers in Chiang Rai and Khon Kaen
Police in Khon Kaen and Chiang Rai have arrested three people in possession of some 3,500 illegal firearms and stockpiling nearly a million ammunition for sale online.
General Kornchai Klaiklueng, the Commissioner of the Cyber Crime Investigation Bureau, said yesterday that police have arrested a 38-year-old man identified only as Danunai in Khon Kaen, as well as Sorawee and Kultirat, both 43, arrested in Chiang Rai. for possessing illegal firearms and ammunition worth approximately 50 million baht.
The weapons were stored in five locations in the two provinces
Police searched three homes belonging to Khun Danunai in Tambon Sila in Khon Kaen’s Muang District, where they found 1,414 illegal rifles, 122 unregistered handguns and 920,000 ammunition.
In Chiang Rai, police searched two airgun shops in Muang district and found 1,786 unregistered rifles, 224 illegal handguns and 57,500 ammunition.
General Klaiklueng said that khu. Danunai ordered firearms, ammunition and weapon accessories from suppliers in Bangkok and the southern provinces. The weapons had been smuggled into the country from Indonesia, Sweden, the United States, Turkey, Spain and China.
He said Danunai had published a website to advertise the weapons. The gang had been operating for about five years and had more than 50,000 customers across the country, General Klaiklueng said.
