Pattaya Police raided an illegal beach club on Pattaya Beach last night, July 26, 2021, reportedly finding both foreigners and Thais, drinking, partying and socializing despite the strict Covid-19 rules currently in force is in Chonburi province to stop the spread of the Covid19 virus.

The raid took place last night at the Bamboo Beach Club located at Moo 5 just before the time the 9:00 pm curfew was set to go into effect in Chonburi as part of Covid-19-related measures.

The raid was led by Pornchai Sangsai of Banglamung District Office and commanded by Wuttisak Singhadecho, involving several officers from Chonburi and Banglamung.

The raid followed orders from the Banglamung authorities who sent an undercover agent to the site to check whether the Covid19 measures were actually being violated. This reportedly followed disturbing calls from several concerned citizens that the venue was being celebrated and other related Covid19 measures were not being followed. The concerned citizens were reportedly concerned about the spread of the Covid19 virus and had therefore reported this incident to the authorities.

Banglamung officials, led by Mr Sangsai, reported that dozens of customers were eating, drinking alcohol, socializing, partying and mingling at the venue against the above rules, many reportedly wearing face masks and not following social distancing. Several of the customers reportedly tried to escape when police arrived, but their escape attempt failed as police surrounded the locate.

According to Sangsai, a total of 66 people, 37 Thais and 29 foreigners, were arrested at the location. The club will be prosecuted under Chonburi Orders 62/2564, although they were not specifically named by Banglamung Police. Under the emergency decree, those arrested, including customers, could face hefty fines and even possible prison terms. The arrested persons have been taken to Banglamung Police Station for further treatment and are due to appear in court this morning.
