Villagers in Phisanulok province on Tuesday staged a march, demanding power supply as they had been living without electricity for 30 years.

Some 200 villagers and students representing 180 families from the seven villages in Tambon Chomphu in None Maprang village marched five kilometres from Ban Nam Tan to the tambon administrative organisation to seek help.

Their request for power supply has been approved but the Forestry Department has demanded Bt274,000 as the cost of reforestation for 25 rai of forests where the power poles would have to be put up in forests linking the seven villages.

The villagers tried to raise the amount on their own but failed to do so and are now seeking help from government agencies concerned. They threatened to take their protests to the provincial hall if their call was not heeded.

But each of the 180 families would have to pay the installation fee of Bt500 to the electricity authority for the installation of power poles to their villages.
