Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha has again warned restaurants to strictly follow Covid19 prevention rules and ordered related organizations to conduct inspections.

Thai government spokesman Thanakorn Wangboonkongchana said Prime Minister Prayut instructed the public, service providers, and restaurant operators, especially live music restaurants, to closely follow the measures taken by the Ministry of Health, including a Covid-free environment and universal prevention.

There are reports that many restaurants have eased enforcement of strict health measures on their own, especially after the government gave them the go-ahead to allow musicians to perform live.

Legal action will be taken against restaurant operators who fail to adhere to strict Covid prevention measures, Thanakorn warned.

The spokesman said the number of infections has increased recently due to gatherings where people don’t wear masks or “scream” in closed spaces.

He said many do not follow the prevention measures because Omicron is not as severe as the other variants. Thanakorn urged the public to strictly adhere to anti-Covid measures to prevent the virus from spreading further, which could lead to more fatalities.
