Prime Minister Prayut of Thailand is putting the brakes on walk-in vaccinations in Thailand

Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha told the media yesterday that he did not want to focus on providing Covid19 vaccines to the public at this time, as the current stock of vaccines is not yet sufficient to vaccinate all citizens.

“Allowing walk-in vaccinations could allow crowds to flow to certain units and cause chaos and spread of the virus, especially in Bangkok, where the population is much denser than in the provinces,” he said.

“I want the primary registration channel to be the Mor Phrom application or the Line account and have urged related agencies to resolve issues as soon as possible after people fail to register online.”

In addition to the Mor Phrom platform, Thai citizens who do not belong to the priority groups can also register from May 31 to get vaccinated in public hospitals or public health offices in their hometown. Registration for foreigners living in Thailand starts in August.

“I want everyone to stop talking about run-in vaccinations until we have clear measures to implement this. We can discuss the topic again if there are enough doses for everyone, ”said the prime minister.

“The issue of run-in vaccinations is a delicate one and requires careful planning and management,” he said.

“The Center for Covid-19 Situation Administration should be the only body to provide updates on run-in vaccinations, if any, to avoid creating public confusion,” added Prayut.
