Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha yesterday urged the public and private sectors to help boost the economy by hosting gigantic New Year’s Eve parties with local superstars.

Before attending the weekly cabinet meeting, Prime Minister Prayut spoke with the Minister of Tourism and Sports, as well as members of the Thailand Tourism Authority, the Tourism Council and the President of the Thai Restaurant Association.

The discussion focused on key policies to boost tourism once the country opens on November 1 to double-vaccinated foreigners from low-risk countries.

Prime Minister Prayut gave the go-ahead to the Ministry of Tourism and Sports to seek private sector funding for the planned New Year’s Eve galas.

Tourism and Sports Minister Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn had previously said he planned to invite Thai K-pop sensation Lalisa Manoban aka “Lisa” and world-renowned tenor Andrea Bocelli to celebrate New Year’s Eve in Phuket and Bangkok in 2022 respectively.
