The governor of Rayong has responded to the high number of Covid19 infections and has ordered all beaches in this east coast province to be temporarily closed between 8 p.m. and 5 a.m., the order took effect immediately.

The measure is intended to prevent people from socializing on the beach in the evening. Experience shows that young people, in particular, gather there late at night and consume alcohol, with severe penalties as a result.

Because both gatherings and alcohol consumption on the beach are punished as violations of the Covid-19 emergency decision.

There is an exception for professional fishermen: they can still go to the beaches at night and go to work with their boats at sea. With the new restriction, Rayong is following the lead of the Chonburi provincial government, which last week already ordered an overnight closing order for Bang Saen Beach, which is especially popular with weekenders from Bangkok.
