The government’s Public Relations Department posted on its Facebook page an announcement from the Administrative Center for Covid19 Control, the CCSA, regarding fines for people who still do not (will not) wear face masks in public.
“If you are caught in public without a face mask for the first time, the fine will not exceed 1,000 baht,” the warning said.
For a second violation, the fine varies from 1,000 baht to 10,000 baht.
For a third violation, and so on, the fine will start from 10,000 baht, but will not exceed 20,000 baht.
Since April last year, the CCSA had imposed a fine on people who do not wear masks in public in provinces with red and orange zones, or areas with a high infection rate. As the number of infections continued to rise, mandatory face mask zones were extended to the entire country in June 2021.
The fine is based on the penal provision of the Infectious Diseases Act.
