He said he has ordered the immigration police to find out how many cars have been brought into Thailand using this trick. Of all 410 cars that Thitisan and the other agents seized, all but five have been auctioned off by customs.

According to the official report, the police who have seized smuggled vehicles can formally claim a reward from Customs. When the seized cars went up for auction through customs, men closely associated with Thitisan bid on them and then sold them to those with a penchant for expensive cars available below market prices.
