Igor Guzhin, 51, a resident of Samara, who was wanted for a contract killing in Russia, has been arrested in Pattaya

A Russian man wanted in his home country in a murder case has been arrested by immigration police at the request of the Russian embassy in Thailand, Deputy Commissioner of Immigration Police Major General Panthana Noochanart said.

Earlier, the Russian embassy had sent a request to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs asking the Thai police to arrest the 51-year-old Russian man, identified by police as Igor Guzhin, and extradite him to Russia, the major general said.

In 2019, a court in Samara, Russia, issued an arrest warrant for the man on charges of contract killing of a man. If found guilty, he could face eight to 20 years in prison or life imprisonment in Russia.

Immigration police revealed that the man entered Thailand on December 2, 2019 and was living in Banglamung district of Chonburi province. Armed with a warrant issued by the Criminal Court, immigration officials arrested the Russian on Jomtien Beach in the resort town of Pattaya.

The Russian was handed over to the Attorney General’s Office pending legal procedures for extradition to Russia.
