Second motorcyclist dies in less than two weeks after fall in reportedly unmarked large road construction pit in Chonburi
Last weekend another motorcyclist was killed after driving his motorcycle into a deep unsecured road construction pit in Ban Bueng.
Klong Giw police were informed of the accident on road number 331 from Sattahip to Chacherngsao last weekend.
Police arrived and found the body of 25-year-old Khun Jetsada Salee, in a construction pit 6 meters wide, 1.5 meters deep and 10 meters long. The well did not appear to have been blocked in any way, no road barriers, fences and/or warning sign, even though a similar accident had occurred just two weeks ago.
Ban Bueng police found the driver’s damaged engine nearby in the partially submerged construction site. Police believed the man had died at least six hours before his body was recovered.
His mother, 54-year-old Khun Somphon Meepan, said: “My son used to drive daily from Ban Bueng to work in Rayong. He was the most important person in our family who made a living supporting us. “
“There must be someone who can be held responsible for his death, and at least pay for my son’s death and funeral expenses.” That is the opinion of the sad mother.
On April 6, another motorcyclist died while his passenger was seriously injured after driving their motorcycle to the same large road construction pit in Ban Bueng. Authorities said they would investigate the incident, but the well was left untouched.
