Police have arrested two suspects in the southern province of Surat Thani. More than 100 thousand methamphetamine pills were seized, the entire batch of drugs would represent a street value of 2 million,” she told Surat Thani governor Mr Wichawut Jinto, to the assembled press.

The governor said a police team backed up by border patrol and defence volunteers had arrested 42-year-old Kantayos Jimmaroeng aka “Khieo” at his home in Tambon Phuang Phromkhon. In the operation, police seized 40,000 methamphetamine pills buried in the ground next to the house. Police also seized a Toya Yaris.

Mr Kantayos allegedly confessed to ordering the pills from a “friend” in the Sichon district. The two had first met in Surat Thani prison. The “friend” was then ordered to place an order for another 60,000 methamphetamine pills.

The drugs were delivered as requested and left at a signpost on Highway 44. Instead of being picked up by another methamphetamine-interested businessman, they were picked up by the drug control team.

Later that day, Surat Thani police arrested Thawatchai Suktaem alias “Pham”. They seized 308 methamphetamine pills from him, seized his pickup truck and 3 gold necklaces to serve as evidence in the trial.

Surat Thani’s governor says the investigation is ongoing.
