Surin will be the first province in Thailand to declare the Covid19 disease endemic as of April 1

The northeastern province of Surin has announced that it will downgrade the Covid-19 pandemic to the endemic status from April 1.

Surin’s information office wrote in a Facebook post last Saturday that the province has met all the criteria to make Covid-19 an endemic disease.

The provincial government also boasted that Surin will be the first province in Thailand to do so. The office also encouraged everyone in the province to get a Covid19 booster shot as soon as possible.

The office supported its endemic statement with a list of the criteria that the province met, which are:

  • All villages strictly adhere to Covid-19 “blue zone” measures.
    • The death rate from Covid-19 infections does not exceed 0.5 per cent.
  • No more than 3 per cent of Covid-19 patients require hospitalization.
  • At least 70 per cent of the residents of Surin have received two injections of the Covid-19 vaccine.
  • Everyone in Surin strictly adheres to the DMHTT guidelines, namely social distancing, wearing a mask, washing hands, testing for symptoms and using the ThaiChana app.

Between December 24 and March 26, Surin registered a total of 16,354 cases, with 276 new cases confirmed on Saturday at 6 p.m. The total number of deaths in this period was 29.
