Suspect arrested in Pattaya for assaulting a Russian citizen
Russian runner fought off a lustful man from Pattaya who attacked and tried to rape sporty Russian woman Elena Zyulkova
Nongpra police reported the arrest of a Thai national on suspicion of assaulting a Russian woman while jogging along Mabprachan Reservoir near Pattaya.
Police officers questioned Kantepop Thanachotsombun, 37, who was detained on suspicion of assaulting a Russian citizen. The investigation suggests that the arrested man attacked 38-year-old Russian teacher Elena Zyulkova the night before while she was jogging around the Mabprachan Reservoir on the outskirts of Pattaya.
The suspect’s car was caught on a video surveillance camera near the scene of the crime, he left the adjacent road on the highway and quickly drove away. Moments later, the victim Zyulkova got out and began to ask for help from passing motorists, waving her hands and drawing attention to herself.
Police believe the suspect intended to sexually assault Elena Zyulkova, but the Russian woman fought off the rapist and Cantepop ran away. Zyulkova sustained injuries to her head, neck and body during the attack. The victim was taken to Banglamung Hospital for treatment, said Nongpra Police Chief Colonel Damrong Eyampairoj.
Police arrested the Russian woman’s assailant at a residence less than 10 kilometers from the scene of the attack around 10 p.m. yesterday. Cantepop confessed to the crime, Col. Damrong said.
