The management of Suvarnabhumi Airport in Bangkok on Saturday apologized for the confusion about the masks and then removed the publication.

An infographic on the airport’s Facebook page banned travellers from taking more than 30 masks out of the country and no more than 50 with a medical certificate. The announcement said violators could face up to five years in prison and/or a 100,000 baht fine.

The infographic was removed later and the management at the airport also sent out a statement saying sorry for the misunderstanding.

It described that the infographic was posted in accordance with a Department of Internal Trade (DIT) announcement about the movement of regulated goods. However, this announcement was made in 2020 due to a shortage of face masks in the country but was only sent to Suvarnabhumi last month.

Suvarnabhumi’s Facebook page states that the airport will only check for prohibited items based on Civil Aviation Organization rules and since face masks are no longer banned, passengers can take as many as they need.

For more information, call DIT on (02) 547 5411.
