Somyos reportedly visited his wife and nine-year-old son at 7 a.m. Tuesday, who were staying at the hotel in Ao Nang and under surveillance for Covid19 measures. A security guard reportedly refused to take durians to the room where his family was staying, saying it was against hotel rules.

This made Somyos very annoyed to walk back to his white Toyota Fortuner in the parking lot. According to the staff on duty, Somyos returned to the hotel lobby about 15 minutes later and strode to the elevator to get to the patients’ rooms. When the staff tried to stop him, he brandished a pistol and fired once at a window, causing the staff to take cover.

Somyos then went to the room where his wife and son were and hurriedly took them to his car and drove off. Police tracked him to the pig farm and discovered that he had left his wife and son with his father, then he fled to a chicken farm about 1 kilometre away to hide.

The police went to the farm and arrested him in the workers’ quarters. They seized a .38 five-round revolver and an 11mm six-round pistol.

A 45-year-old chicken farm worker was shot in the right leg by Somyos just before the arrest. The worker was rushed to Lam Thab Hospital and is now in stable condition.

Police also found an empty .38 revolver in Somyos’ vehicle parked 500 meters from the chicken farm. He was later taken to Lam Thap Hospital for a Covid-19 test and then to Lam Thab Police Station for questioning. He reportedly declined to make a statement.

The hotel staff later told them that. wife and son were taken to the hotel for quarantine last Saturday after attending a funeral in the Khlong Thom district that had sparked a new outbreak of the Covid19 virus in Krabi.
