Thai nightlife re-opening is DELAYED until Jan 15

More bad news was announced on Friday as we found out that the reopening of nightlife entertainment venues has been pushed back till at least January the 15th. This has come after more pleas from locals and bar owners to let them open up sooner.

A spokesman for the government’s COVID-19 administration, Taweesin Visanuyotin, cited concerns about ventilation and inefficient prevention measures in pubs, bars and karaoke joints.

He said, “That experts have shown their concern about reopening these places because of the low ventilation and the crowd, which would be difficult to control.”

“We will allow the businesses to reopen, but we might start testing in some areas first.”

Thailand started its reopening process back in November and started to let in fully vaccinated tourists and there would be no need for quarantine and easing the endless lockdown that has cost so many jobs for people and also caused massive hardship

Reports indicated that the tourism trade had accounted for at least 20% of Thailands economy before the pandemic started.

The Thailand Nightlife and Entertainment Business Association had hoped that nightlife businesses, shut since April, would reopen next month.

Many business owners and locals are somewhat confused by this decision to delay reopening nightlife entertainment as the number of confirmed coronavirus cases have continued to fall, with 7,305 recorded on Friday with only 51 deaths. It has also been stated that at least 65% of Thailands population have now been partially vaccinated.
