A Thai paramilitary ranger killed two people and injured one in the early hours of yesterday. This act was triggered by a heated argument in a bar in the main district of this southern border province.
The 25-year-old ranger, Hadchaicharn (surname not mentioned), shot and killed a man, stabbed a woman, and injured another man at the Nasa bar on Chalermchai Road in Tambon Sateng at 12:45 p.m.
Police reported that an argument had broken out in the bar between the ranger and a couple. The ranger went home for his gun, returned to the bar and fired a hail of bullets at the bar, hitting a man in the chest and left arm, another 40-year-old man in the right shoulder while holding the woman in the waist.
The man who was shot in the shoulder remains conscious as the couple died of their injuries on their way to a hospital. Several vehicles were fired upon at the bar.
Police arrested and detained the 25-year-old resident of Phattalung for the alleged murders and assault and said they would investigate further. Police said the bar is popular with local government officials and rangers.
If found guilty under Section 288 of murder under Thai law, Hadchaicharn will be sentenced to death or sentenced to 15 to 20 years in prison.
