Thai prison guards SACKED after murder & corruption

It has been reported that 10 prison officials have been fired by Thailands correctional department for gross misconduct. These allegations include smuggling contraband into prisons, gross negligence and corruption.

The Director-general from The Department of Corrections stated that the departmental oversight committee had reviewed the gross misconduct of 10 prison officials and had asked for them to be removed from their posts. At this time, the names of the officials have not been made public

The committee also ordered the sacking of two prison guards who had received money from families of the prisoners in return for favours and also helped smuggle goods into the prison.

Three more prison guards were also fired. Two guards had been caught smuggling tobacco and selling it to prisoners at a higher price. One other prison guard was punished due to misconduct in relation to the murder of four family members.

The committee also decided to fire another four guards who were in charge of monitoring people entering and exiting the prison. Negligence resulted in prisoners being able to escape while disguised as prison officers.

Lastly, one prison officer had been found guilty of giving an inmate a mobile phone

The corrections department has said that their officers must be able to act with honesty and be able to follow strict regulations. The department has also warned other officers to stop breaking the rules or face the same fate and any other prison officers that are found to have committed illegal acts will be punished with the utmost severity, the report said.
