A 53-year-old Thai army lieutenant has died in harness when a gust of wind caught his parachute while parachuting and drove him against a mountain cliff.
The man hit the rock face with a thud and fell into the dense forest. It took a search and rescue team an hour to find the man’s body in the woods.
The soldier and five colleagues had set out to base jump. They climbed the 500-meter peak of Mount Khao Do, a popular spot for amateur paratroopers, media reports.
A colleague of the victim told authorities that the group hiked to the top, rested there, and then jumped into the depths.
