Thai visitors crowd at the merit-making ceremony for victims of mass shooting in Korat
Large crowds attended a ceremony of merit at a temple in the main district yesterday afternoon, two years after a soldier’s shooting that left 31 dead and 57 injured.
The ceremony was held at Wat Pa Sattharuam in Tambon Huay Thalay.
The pl. army commander Major General Sombat Intharasri presided over the ceremony, which was attended by the deputy. Governor of Nakhon Ratchasima, Somkiart Wiriyakullanan, military officers, local officials, relatives of the dead and members of the public.
In the tents near the temple construction, monitor screens were put up, along with chairs, so that people could see the ceremony well.

The 32-year-old gunman started his frenzy in the Surathampithak army camp, where he shot and killed his commander Colonel Anantharot Krasae, then the commander’s mother-in-law Anong Mitchan and one civilian, the reason for the massacre was a conflict over a real estate deal. He then fled in a Humvee to terminal 21 in Korat
Armed with three HK33 rifles and an M60 machine gun he had brought from camp, Jakrapanth shot randomly at civilians in the mall
Dozens of people hid in the mall and the gunman reportedly held about 20 of them hostage. The drama ended on February 9 when the gunman was shot dead by police commandos.
This horrific act was alleged to have been caused by a home sale conflict involving the gunman and his commander.
A total of 31 people, including the gunman, were killed and 57 others were injured.
