Thai woman spends 300,000 baht on wedding, but “loving” groom doesn’t show up

A Thai bride-to-be greeted all her guests at her May Day wedding in eastern Thailand’s Prachinburi province, but the groom beautifully never showed up. The man had claimed to be a soldier, but when he failed to show up at his own wedding, the bride asked the Royal Army to round him up

When the military checked their database, they found no military personnel in his name. The bride thinks that he cannot afford the dowry requested by her parents. The bride, Namthip, a 40-year-old factory worker, spent 300,000 baht on the wedding in Kabinburi district. She said she borrowed her family’s money, spent it all on wedding arrangements, and now she has to pay it back herself.

Namthip arranged various Chinese ceremonies and traditions and prepared 50 tables of food and drink for her wedding guests. She got up and greeted all the guests, but in time the groom did not appear on what should have been a festive day. When she tried to reach him, he didn’t answer. She said that after a while she realized that he had cheated on her.

The man told her that his name was Suwannahong or Ek and that he was a soldier of the rank of Sergeant Major. Yesterday the deputy. a spokesman for the Royal Thai Army Cl. Sirichan Ngathong said he checked the army’s database, but no personnel under his name were found.

khu. Namthip told Thai media in a trembling voice: “My boyfriend and I, who claimed to be Sergeant Major, have been in a relationship since December last year. He also claimed to be a bodyguard for local politicians in the Nadi sub-district. His personality, dress and language made me believe he was a real soldier and bodyguard. So I didn’t feel the need to confirm his identity with the military while we were together. He was a good-natured man, always got along well with my family and took care of everything in the house.”

Namthip’s parents demanded a dowry of 200,000 baht and 3 baht gold from Ek. At around 7 am on the day of the wedding, Ek Namthip called and argued about the dowry. After that, the bride was unable to contact him.

She said that throughout their relationship, she tried to contact and visit Ek’s relatives in Nakhon Ratchasima province, but Ek would always find an excuse not to be able to visit them. She said she never spoke to any of Ek’s relatives.

The hero in socks has now been out of reach for four days and his whereabouts are as yet unknown.
