Thailand has a new traffic law!

According to a new police ordinance that came into effect Friday, motorists are only allowed to use hands-free phone calls while driving.

The Royal Thai Police Order issued by outgoing National Police Commander General Suwat Jongyodsuk on September 28, 2022, came into effect immediately after being announced in the Royal Gazette on Friday.

The directive, a new amendment to the Land Transport Act, clarifies that motorists can only use their mobile phones while driving with a hands-free kit or with a Bluetooth kit.

Motorists with their mobile phones are only allowed to attach their phones to the dashboard or the windshield so that the view of the traffic is not obstructed.

Violators of this new law risk a fine of 400 to 1,000 baht.
