A waiter from the hotel where the first Omicron patient in Thailand stayed has tested positive for the Covid19 virus, although it is still not clear whether the variant is present.
Deputy Health Minister Satit Pitutecha told reporters that 17 people had come into contact with the American businessman who tested positive for the Omicron variant last Friday.
Of the 17, the waiter tested positive and was sent to the Bamrasnaradura Infectious Diseases Institute for treatment. The patient’s sample is being tested for the Omicron variant and results can be expected Saturday.
The Thai health service will also check the patient’s timeline to see if the infection was picked up by the tourists or during a trip to Ubon Ratchathani.
