Thailand offers free entry to museums and parks for the New Year

Thailand’s Department of Fine Arts announced that all national museums and historical sites in the kingdom will be open to the public for free from December 30 to January 2 as a New Year’s gift

According to the department, the promotion includes the opening of an exhibition of historic gold jewelry from the Ayutthaya period at the Chao Sam Phraya National Museum in Ayutthaya on Dec. 30.

Beginning Dec. 28, the National Museum in Bangkok will display an auspicious Buddha image from the Front Palace, the revered image of Gautama Buddha, the second most important image in Thailand after the Emerald Buddha, daily from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Nine other Buddha statues will also be on display.

On December 25 from 5:30 to 7:30 p.m., the National Museum of Bangkok complex will host a free open-air exhibition, “Khon,” based on the story of the Ramayana.

From Dec. 30 to Jan. 2, the National Museum of Bangkok will host “Night at the Museum” events from 4 to 8 p.m. to highlight the grandeur of the ancient architecture of the Front Palace at night. They will include cooking demonstrations and discounted book and art sales.

Beginning December 22, the National Library of Thailand is holding lectures and hands-on activities on how to have fun and spend the New Year. On the same day, an exhibition on the history of Thai New Year celebrations will begin and run through April 22, 2023.
