The kingdom plans to throw a huge extravaganza party to celebrate the country’s reopening. The Ministry of Tourism and Sports said it plans to organize concerts in Bangkok and Phuket, with a budget of 500-600 million baht.
The famous Italian tenor Andrea Bocelli and Thai K-pop singer Lisa Monaban will perform during the concerts. Tourism and Sports Minister Phiphat Ratchakitprakarn says bringing the two artists to the country is beyond economic value.
“Especially Lalisa Monaban, known as “dear Lisa” the young Thai K-pop singer from Buriram, who is a huge source of inspiration for the youth of the country.”
He also confirmed that Lalisa Monaban will sing in Phuket at Sarasin Bridge, while Andrea Bocelli will perform in Bangkok at Sanam Luang public square. The government and private sector are sponsoring the event by spending 200 million baht. The rest of the funding comes from private sponsors.
The TAT has asked the artists to perform as part of a New Year’s Eve celebration and is awaiting a response from the artists. But Piphat says Covid-19 protocols should also be taken into account.
“We also need to discuss with the Department of Health how many spectators are allowed and other health and safety protocols for such major events when we are still dealing with an outbreak.”
The CCSA recently announced that vaccinated visitors from certain countries can enter the country without going into quarantine, effective November 1. These visitors are also allowed to travel wherever they want, rather than being restricted to certain parts of the country. In addition, Bangkok has approved a plan to allow corporate events with 500 attendees or fewer.
Thai Spa Association president and head of the Hua Hin Recharge program, Krod Rojanastien, has high hopes for the reopening plan. He says opening Hua Hin to international travellers will double the city’s occupancy rate from 20% to 40%.
Krod says official timelines should be published to make planning easier for tourists and tour operators alike. He also said guests are waiting for these official announcements before making plans to come.
