The World Happiness Report 2021 has ranked Thailand as the 48th happiest country in the world. Finland finished in first place for the fourth year in a row. After Finland, Iceland, Denmark, Switzerland and the Netherlands followed.
The ranking was based on the gross domestic product, social welfare, life expectancy, degree of freedom, generosity and the perception of corruption in the country.
For the current report, people in each country were also asked about the situation of Covid-19 and their happiness in the past year compared to previous years.
Singapore was the best-ranked country in the ASEAN region in 32nd place. The Philippines was in 61st place, Vietnam climbed four places to 79, followed by Malaysia (81), Indonesia (82) and Cambodia (114). Afghanistan took last place out of 149 countries assessed.
