Thailand to abolish vaccine and Covid19 testing requirements for entry as of October 1

Health Minister Anutin Charnvirakul confirmed after attending the meeting of the National Committee on Communicable Diseases that the Covid19 situation is improving globally as well as in Thailand, while the figures for inpatients, critically ill and fatalities continue to decline and an estimated 82% of the population has developed immunity to the disease.

The Thai Government Gazette states that the Covid19 disease will be classified as a communicable disease under surveillance from 1 October. The National Communicable Disease Committee recently held a meeting to establish practical guidelines for the current state of the disease. It has also decided to lift vaccine and COVID testing requirements for entry into Thailand.

The rates for inpatients, critically ill patients and fatalities have continued to fall and it is estimated that 82% of the population has developed immunity to the disease.

At the meeting approved the plan to place the Covid19 disease as a communicable disease under surveillance for the period October 2022 – September 2023. Therefore, approval was given for the dangerous communicable disease status to be lifted and downgraded to the 57th communicable disease under control. The order has been executed in accordance with the Transferable Diseases Act BE 2558 announced in the Government Gazette. The change will take effect on October 1.

The meeting will also present four strategies for monitoring COVID-19 to the cabinet. This concerns the measures for disease prevention, monitoring and control; therapy; communication of disease risk; and legal, social and economic management.

In addition, the committee approved new prevention and monitoring measures related to Thailand’s entry procedures. Evidence of vaccination or ATK test results are no longer required, although travellers may still be inspected if they show symptoms of dangerous or emerging diseases.
