Thailand’s hunt for the hacker intensifies as hospital databases across the country are checked

The Ministry of Digital Economy and Society (DES) says it is working with hospitals across the country to close any gaps in their data systems after 16 million medical records went up for sale online.

DES Minister Chaiwut Thanakamanusorn said the data breach at Phetchabun Hospital in the lower north came from a new internal system that may not meet data security standards. He added that internet connections to hospital data systems had been interrupted and login credentials were being checked to find the hacker.

Meanwhile, rumours that as many as 30 million records were stolen from the hospital were likely false, the National Cyber Security Commission announced.

Khun Amorn Chomchai, the deputy. The Commission chief explained that the hackers appeared to have released the stolen data for sale online in July before withdrawing it and then releasing the same data for sale again.
