The coastal city of Pattaya offers its permanent residents 2000 baht in financial aid

The coastal city of Pattaya has promised every registered family in the city the amount of 2,000 baht to provide some financial aid as a result of the Covid-19 crisis. The pledge was ruled out by the mayor, Sonthaya Khunplume, as the hospitality and tourism sector, which accounts for about 80% of Pattaya’s GDP, continues to suffer as a result of the pandemic.

With virtually no foreign tourists since April last year, this city has to deal with an unparalleled catastrophe, worse still, there is still no light at the end of the tunnel.

I, Olivier B, Bommel, a gentleman of standing (remember) reported yesterday that even companies that are allowed to open, such as restaurants, are not allowed to receive guests, which means that they can only offer takeout or delivery services. With countless unemployed residents and many informal workers not registered in the social security system, people are left with no income, leading to a noticeable increase in homelessness and people queuing for food stamps.

Pattaya Mayor Sonthaya Khunplume said the deteriorating situation as Pattaya was classified as a “dark red zone” with maximum health checks over the past weekend means more businesses will be forced to close their doors.

The Thai people but also my fellow countrymen have been widely affected by the outbreak and nobody wants to see the city in its current state. I’m not exactly sure when Pattaya’s businesses will be allowed to reopen, especially Pattaya’s entertainment, tourism and nightlife industries, which are a major economic attraction.”

The mayor said every registered family in the city will be eligible for a benefit of 2,000 baht, with the money coming from other projects that have been postponed due to the pandemic.

I would like to end this epistle by saying that residents will be able to register from the beginning of next month, with the money being distributed in September.
