The first construction phase of a five-year flood protection project is due to start in October of the next fiscal year.
The extensive construction work begins along the railway and extends to central and southern Pattaya.
The project is part of an overall Eastern Economic Corridor (EEC) plan to improve Pattaya’s infrastructure and prepare it for the high-speed rail line that will run along the current rail line.
There are plans to build tunnels down to the sea in the eastern part of Pattaya to prevent flooding. The work also includes drainage projects in South Pattaya to prevent flooding, Mayor Sonthaya Khunpluem said.
