The Covid19 virus penetrates the factory of the Japanese car manufacturer Toyota, after which production is immediately stopped

Japanese automaker Toyota in Bangkok has had to shut down production facilities for at least three days as the factory has been hit by the Covid19 virus.

According to the Federation of Thai Industries (FTI), Arrow Products has closed its factory for 14 days after Covid19 infections among its staff were discovered. To be able to continue assembling cars, Toyota is looking for parts from other suppliers in Thailand and surrounding countries.

The FTI has raised its target for car production this year to 1.55 to 1.6 million units due to the good export prospects. However, the third wave of the virus could deal a blow to the domestic auto industry.

The FTI remains bullish on auto-export markets as demand picks up in many countries, including New Zealand, Japan, Mexico, Malaysia and Vietnam, and the global economy recovers.

In the first half of this year, car production in Thailand rose 39.3 per cent year-on-year to 844,601 units. In June alone, there was a 74.2 per cent increase to 74,574 units compared to the previous year.
