Pattaya police have identified the suspect in the murder of a British ex-pat who was shot in the back on Chaiyaprak road

Thai police have identified the prime suspect in the murder of a British ex-pat in Pattaya. According to CCTV footage, the victim, Mr. Neil Lewis Roger, 70, who was riding home on a motorcycle, tried to evade a white car chasing him with some kind of equipment strapped to the roof.

The suspect chased the victim along Sukhumvit Road toward Chayaprik Soybean for about two kilometers. The white car then suddenly stopped in front of the motorcycle driven by Roger, after which the driver got out and opened fire on the unarmed victim, who was trying to escape.

According to the Thai police, CCTV footage was able to identify the main suspect in the murder and a possible motive.

On the evening of Jan. 6, more than 50 police officers from the SWAT unit blocked off the suspect’s home in Huayai, which is only 500 meters from the crime scene. The officers spent more than three hours outside the house while a drone patrolled the area around the house from the air. No one went in or out of the house and no one was inside.

Police officers said a warrant was issued for the arrest of Apichart Bunsawat on suspicion of murder and unlawful carrying of a weapon in a public place. The suspect has not yet been found, and police are urging him to turn himself in as they continue their search.

At this point, police speculate that a roadside conflict, based on security camera footage, led to the murder.
